REOI: Selection Criteria

The Artist Selection Committee (a sub-committee of the Programming Advisory Committee) will work with the Managing Director of the Regent Park Arts & Cultural Centre to program and prioritize arts and cultural activities at the Regent Park Arts & Cultural Centre.  The following is a list of considerations that will inform the committee’s decision-making process. Note: applicants need not meet all of these criteria.

Does the Artist or Arts Event:

Demonstrate Innovation?
Priority will be given to artists and arts organizations whose work pushes creative boundaries.

Share the Regent Park Arts & Cultural Centre Values?
Do the applicant’s values align with those of the Regent Park Arts & Cultural Centre (i.e.  excellence in artistic creation ; inclusivity, participation and learning; celebrating and serving our diverse community; collaboration, dialogue and social engagement; a healthy sustainable community)?

Contribute to the Centre’s Programming Mix?
Does this application contribute to the desired mix of art forms and genres including music, theatre, dance, etc (both traditional and contemporary)? Does this artwork reflect the Regent Park Arts & Cultural Centre’s commitment to showcasing artworks of diverse developmental stages, including both established and emerging organizations?

Demonstrate Community-Mindedness?
Does the applicant demonstrate an understanding of the ethos of both the neighbourhood and of the Regent Park Arts & Cultural Centre? Priority will be given to works that use the arts to explore and address relevant social challenges, and demonstrate social inclusion & community engagement. Applicants committed to serving and supporting residents of Regent Park (e.g. through artistic, cultural employment or educational initiatives) will be given priority.

Reflect Cultural Diversity?
The Regent Park Arts & Cultural Centre’s programming will reflect the diversity of our city. Does the artist and/or event, and/or organization contribute to the commitment of reflecting Toronto’s diverse Aboriginal and ethno-racial cultural communities?

Have a Strong Profile?
Will the artist, organization or event help draw audiences or help build profile for the Regent Park Arts & Cultural Centre as a new programming venue?

Demonstrate an Interest in Skills-Sharing and Mentorship?
Does the applicant have a track record of skills-sharing and mentorship?
